General Rules
A general rule for dental emergencies involving the mouth, teeth or tongue injuries is to rinse with warm water to clean the area and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
For a Knocked-out Tooth
If one of the adult teeth is knocked out, you may – rinse – then attempt to put it back in the socket. Keeping the tooth moist is important as well as getting in to see the Dentist as soon as possible.
Avoid Trouble
Steps can be taken to prevent dental emergencies. DON’T chew on ice, popcorn kernels or other hard objects, like some candies. NEVER use your teeth to open something. Teeth are tools for chewing your food – ONLY!
