Stress. We’ve all been dealing a lot of changes this year – working from home and the challenges that come with it, disrupted schedules and routines, less time with family and friends. Some may say just “grind” your teeth and bear it but not us!
Bruxism is the name for the condition of teeth grinding and jaw clenching. Although it can be caused by stress, it’s important to note that it can also be the result of sleep disorders, an abnormal bite, or teeth that are missing or crooked. A study in the November 2016 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association notes people who drink alcohol and smokers are approximately twice as likely to grind their teeth.
What Causes Bruxism
The symptoms of teeth grinding include:
- dull headaches
- jaw soreness
- teeth that are painful or loose
- fractured teeth
