We’re all about making your experience with us as comfortable and convenient as possible. That’s why we use CEREC technology. We can complete your dental work, make an impression and have you out the door with a durable crown in place – all in one visit.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is a form of CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) technology developed in 1980 by W. Mörmann and M. Brandesitin at the University of Zurich.
How Does It Work?
The preparation of the tooth is first imaged and stored as a three dimensional digital model. This digital image replaces the physical impression required in traditional procedures so no more long waits while a tray of impression goop hardens in your mouth! Software is then used to approximate the restoration shape using comparisons to surrounding teeth.
Dr. Mansour then refines that model using 3D CAD software. When the design phase is complete, the information is sent to the milling unit which mills the actual restoration from a solid block of material using diamond burs. The restoration is bonded to the tooth using a resin cement which bonds to both the restoration as well as the tooth itself. The procedure only takes a little more than an hour!
This technology is available for fillings, crowns and veneers. If you’d like to find out more about CEREC and see if it is the right option for you, call our office at 248-852-3130 or ask to learn more about it at your next visit.
