Make Your Child’s Next Dentist Visit a Breeze!

family dentist, rochester hills, oakland county, dentist, pediatric dentistry, Mansour,

New experiences can often bring about a combination of apprehension, excitement and even anxiety for many of us. When scheduling your child’s first visit with us or even their six-month dental check-up, preparation goes a long way in helping to alleviate any fear your little one may have at their appointment.

Consider these steps to help set the stage for a great visit to the dentist for your child.

  • Explain to your child why they are going to the dentist. Maintaining healthy teeth and gums is good for their health and the dentist is the person who helps to keep them healthy.
  • Remember, any anxiety you feel will very often be picked up on by your child so remember to use positive words like clean, strong, healthy teeth and avoid words like hurt, pain or shot.
  • Consider role-playing a dental visit at home or reading children’s books where their favorite character visits the dentist. Remember to keep it light and look for books that focus on the positive aspects of a dental visit.
  • Answer any questions they may have with simple, straightforward answers. The dentist can address anything else more involved at their appointment as they are trained to help describe what they are doing in an easy-to-understand way.

Remember, it is normal for your child to be apprehensive and even fearful of this new experience. Our dental staff are professionals at helping to calm and alleviate our youngest patient’s fears and making them feel comfortable about their visit with us. We even have some toothbrushing animal friends who they’ll meet at their visit! We want to make it a positive experience for you and your child and start them on the path to a lifetime of good dental care.
